3 Kirkland Signature Items This Nutritionist Always Buys at Costco

In the five years since I became a Costco member, the warehouse has moved up the list of grocery stores I frequent; it’s now the first place I check before shopping anywhere else! It’s my go-to for freezer finds, pantry staples, and select fresh produce (I live alone, so I only buy items in bulk I know I can use or freeze before they spoil), and the place to visit at the start of a new season.

Another thing I love about Costco? Its store brand, Kirkland Signature. And I’m not alone in that, either: Kitchn Editors and professional chefs can’t get enough of the quality and increasingly attractive value of items with the Kirkland label. While I have many favorites (in the double digits!), there are a few I never leave the warehouse without. These are the three Kirkland products you’ll find in my cart every time I visit Costco.

1. Kirkland Signature Organic Strawberries, $9.99 for 3 pounds

These strawberries are one of the reasons I got a Costco membership years ago, and remain a permanent fixture in my freezer. (I buy between four to six bags every trip, so I never run out.) They’re a vibrant red hue, huge in size, juicy, sweet, and so easy to use in a variety of ways — beyond making smoothies (although, they are a mainstay in my morning smoothies and oatmeal, too). Strawberries are consistently number one on the Dirty Dozen list, which is why I always go for the organic ones.

2. Kirkland Signature Organic Maple Syrup, $10.79 for 32 ounces

The thing I love about Costco’s maple syrup, aside from its golden hue and strong maple flavor, is actually the bottle! It’s a sturdy (BPA-free) plastic jug, so there’s no need to worry about glass breakage from any mishaps — they happen! The spout also prevents extra syrup from leaking down the side post-pour. It’s a natural sweetener in my morning oatmeal and baked goods; I use it every Thanksgiving and Christmas, in place of corn syrup, when I make my family’s favorite pecan pie. It can add a sweet warmth to so many cozy meals.

3. Kirkland Signature Mixed Nut Butter with Seeds, $8.99 for 27 ounces

Finding a good nut butter (without added oils or sugars) at a good price is no small feat. This mixed nut butter with seeds is a big win. It’s made with almonds, cashews, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, flaxseed, and nothing else. It has a rich, nutty flavor with a hint of almond, and the seeds add a pleasant crunch to the creamy consistency. And like any nut butter, you can add it to smoothies; spread it on toast, crackers, or sandwiches; stir it into yogurts, dips, and dressings; and simply enjoy it right off the spoon. Fun fact: You don’t have to be a member to snag a jar! You can find it on Amazon and Walmart, although it’s slightly more expensive.
