With 3,570 specialist bakeries and 12,704 supermarkets nationwide, bread is pretty easy to come by in the UK, but there’s something extra-special about a loaf you’ve made yourself.

Either through necessity or the extra time we were all being afforded, lockdown saw many turn to home-baking. In fact, breadmaking was the biggest trend of the year at BBC Good Food. As sourdough starters bubbled away and bakes became more daring, for many of us, breadmaking turned into a hobby that has lived on beyond the pandemic.

This breadmaker gave our loaf a pleasing rustic look with a crisp crust and light, fluffy crumb. It comes with a wealth of settings, including a fruit and nut dispenser, plus a delay timer so you can wake up to the smell of fresh bread in the morning – an absolute win for us.

It’s versatile too, and the bonus functions for making gluten-free loaves, dough only and packet-bread mix are a clever and unique addition. Deals-wise, we saw it drop to £120 in July this year – not far off the current price – so we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled to see whether further discounts are dropped.

This model also has the largest control panel of all the models we’ve tested, so if you struggle with your eyesight or you’re simply not a fan of tiny screens, then this Lakeland touchscreen model is worth considering.

The medium-browning setting left the loaf a little paler than we’d hoped, but when it came to flavour and texture, we couldn’t fault this machine.

Sporting an impressive 46% off, this is not a deal to be missed. With a compact footprint and generously sized viewing window, this is a breadmaker that deserves pride of place on the kitchen counter. This model produced a good-textured, flavoursome loaf, but it was a little pale on top. There is also a useful fast-bake setting.

These include everything from bread settings for sourdough and gluten-free loaves, to yogurt, jam and even cake. This year, Black Friday falls on 25 November – that’s today. The deals event will span the entire weekend, ending eventually on Cyber Monday, 28th November.

What is Black Friday?

Black Friday is an annual sales event that originated in the US. This event takes place the Friday after Thanksgiving and is an opportunity to snap up those products you’ve had your eye on for a while at a discounted price.

Although we see the bulk of the deals being released on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, we’ve noticed a significant number of retailers releasing their Black Friday deals early.
